The story of Salt Savannah Primary & Infant School begins in 1954 with an act of community partnership that would forever change educational opportunities in south-east Clarendon. The Monymusk Sugar Company's generous donation of land on the Salt Savannah Cane fields created the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of learning in our coastal region. This thoughtful placement, approximately two kilometres from the fishing village of Rocky Point, was strategically chosen to serve the children of Rocky Point, Rocky Settlement, and Portland Cottage.
From its earliest days, Salt Savannah Primary School recognized the unique character of its community, where most families earned their livelihoods from Jamaica's rich fishing industry. The school was designed not just as an educational institution, but as a bridge between traditional coastal life and expanding opportunities for the next generation. This deep understanding of community needs helped establish the strong bonds between school and families that continue to define our culture today.
Over the decades, Salt Savannah has evolved from a single primary school into a comprehensive Primary & Infant institution, adapting to meet the changing needs of our growing community. The addition of infant classes expanded our ability to nurture young minds from their earliest educational years, creating continuity and stability for families throughout their children's foundational learning period.
In recent years, Salt Savannah Primary & Infant School has distinguished itself through remarkable achievements across multiple areas of student development. Our varied and comprehensive co-curricular programme has enabled students to excel not only in academics but also in sports and the performing arts. These successes reflect our commitment to developing well-rounded individuals who embody our motto of 'Always Doing Our Best to Learn, Mature and Succeed.'
Today, under the dedicated leadership of Principal Loreen Ludford, Vice Principal Nadine Leslie-Smith, and Board Chair Sandre Rhoden, JP, Salt Savannah continues to build on nearly seven decades of educational excellence. As we look toward the future, we remain committed to honoring our rich heritage while embracing innovative approaches to education that will prepare our students for success in an ever-changing world.
